When traveling, bring your own tobasco sauce. You can eat darn near anything with enough tobasco sauce.

Always try the dishes labeled "spicy" always prepare to be disapointed.

When you really want spicy, and you're visiting an ethnic restaurant, be aware that your ethnicity may work against you. (I'm white). You may have to work to get the proper spice level. I've found that the magic words for me are "Challenge the chef"
