Imran's Chai Tea Recipe
Ingredients
- 1 cup water
- ¼ cup whole milk
- 1 ½ tsp sugar
- 1 cardamom seed in shell (optional)
- 1 tsp or bag of tea
Directions
- Put water in pan under high heat.
- Peel open cardamom and add to water (with shell), optionally crush with heavy object
- Add tea
- Wait till water comes to a boil then add milk until it’s the right color.
- I’ve never actually measured before but 1 to .25 sounds like a good water/milk ratio.
- Put on medium heat until it boils then put on low heat and let it simmer for about 3-5 minutes
- Strain into a cup and add sugar to taste.
Notes
So the tea, obviously, is the most important part of the recipe, the second is the water/milk ratio.
You might find some sort of English breakfast tea in the grocery stores there. PG Tips is one brand that I know of.
You could even use lipton tea bags to start with if you can’t find PG Tips.
The Cadillac of tea is Ketepa Kenyan Loose Tea leaves: I’ve never found it in a store, this is where I used to get it from but they don’t have online order capabilities anymore, you have to fax your order to Kenya.
