Curries
I love curries! Thai, Indian, Malaysian, you name it... even Japanese (though they're generally not so spicy).
Beer Curry, Anyone?
The other day I decided to try a slow-cooked curry in the crock pot, to see if the meat would be more tender than my regular stovetop version. However my slow cooker cooks a bit on the hot side, and I didn't want to over-boil the coconut milk.
To get the meat properly slow-cooked, without watering it down, I decided to use a beer. Not my normal cooking style, but it seemed a logical substitute.
I have to say, it turned out not too bad... a very savory curry.
I used Monteiths Radler, a New Zealand brew which has a sort of zesty, upbeat flavor that didn't compete too badly with the coconut cream I later added.
I may have to experiment more with this.
